Marriage

My marriage is like a well rehearsed dance. The choreography having been perfected for almost twenty years. We know what the other is thinking and can finish each other sentences and thoughts. We know each other's likes and dislikes. We are aware of the other's needs before we can even ask. I know how to please him, and he knows how to please me. The seasoning to a good marriage is time, love and selfless sacrifice. This became even more evident during our recent trip. He knew when I was uncomfortable in crowds just by the grasp of my hand. I knew how he likes his cheeseburgers "de-pickled" in the car and then re wrapped so that it didn't drip on him while he was driving. We laughed as we realized we were craving the same foods. And, complained together when we recognized the fact that our kids didn't miss us as much as we missed them. Growing older means many things, where my kids are concerned, it means not needing us or missing us like they have in the past. Thankfully, to my marriage, it means growing closer to my best friend.

  1. Fabulous post. I liked reading how you are growing closer together.

Big C and I are still working on this. I know his likes/dislikes but he is still learning mine. We have had a few mishaps where I have thrown ice creams out the window because I hated the selection. (He got his mom's favorite for me....his moms!) Anyway, I am slowing maturing, and someday he will know I like strawberry cream cheese ice cream and HATE Pralines and Cream. :D

  6. I so look forward to those days. Not that I want to rush these - I'm loving them just fine, thanks, but I look forward to being able to say my marriage is like a well tuned dance. Currently it's a well snuggled cuddle on the couch in front of So You Think You Can Dance....

  12. I love the part about de-pickling the burger. Those little rhythms that we share with our husbands is fantastic--stuff that no one else really knows to do--it's sounds silly, but those little things are what cement our bond--drive home the fact that we're in this together.....a true team. Marriage is really incredible when you work your butt off at it! :)

  21. This is a sweet post. It's true - marriage is a lot like a well-rehearsed dance. I'm just thinking about how we move around each other in our tiny tiny kitchen and can anticipate each other's moves. That's comforting in a lot of ways.

  32. Such a happy thing. I know I will really miss this phase of little needy kids about the house, but hopefully the new joys -- like being able to go on a trip with my husband (or even a date) without crazy amounts of figuring and arranging, will make it a fantastic phase in itself!
