Writers, Reviews and Comments

Not so long ago I fancied myself a writer.  I felt inspired at odd times of the day and words would just flow from my fingertips.  From the inspiring to the snarky, I was in my writer/blogger element.  When life gets hard, creativity seems to take a back seat in my world.  I bagged writing and blogging for a while.  I’m trying to get back in my groove, fake it till you make it, but I don’t really feel like my posts have much substance.  They’re not meaty enough to attract the avid reader/blog follower.  What I have to share is ‘eh’ or at least I think so based on the lack of responses.

Once upon a time I thought I didn’t care…I write for me.  I record for me.  But the thing is, just as writers are driven by their critiques and reviews, so are bloggers driven by comments.  In the last few months since my disappearance then reemergence in the blogging world, the commenters disappeared.  At one point, I would get 15-20 comments on a post and now mostly it’s a big goose egg.  Is the time of blogging come to an end or are blogs moving in a different direction?

It was brought to my attention that I might need to move in to the “now”…embracing twitter, Instagram, google+ and facebook to pimp my posts.  But I don’t have time for that…it’s sad really.  Now that I’ve been on my pity pot, please share with me ways that you are able to drive traffic to your blog and encourage comments.

Breaking the Shell

This proverbial introvert, the one who has been craving community and more purpose in her life, just accepted a social invitation.  Shocker, right?  Yeah, I'm shocked, too!

A Facebook friend, someone I actually know in real life, too, invited me to a book club meeting.  The invitation was there...the door was open...the ball was in my court....and so I clicked "will be going" on the online invite.  It is time to be daring!  Who would ever think a book club is daring, but my dears, it really is...Now it is my turn to psych myself up for a gathering of women.  I mean I love all things books and treats. But sometimes women are so dang scary.  Some women can be judgmental and mean spirited.  Past experiences have me cringing, but I will not judge these ladies on my past experiences.

The book this month is "These is My Words" by Nancy E. Turner.  I picked up the book the other day at the library and have not been able to put it down since.  Loving the book will make the meeting just a little bit easier.  It is so nice to be invited and included.  I've tried to make it a motto to accept invitations, because if I decline, follow ups may be few and far between.

I'll let you know how it goes, in the meantime...Carry on

Simplify

I have not been able to stay away from my blog as long as I thought I could, because writing, and your comments, bring me joy.  Today I find myself thinking on the Word of the Year I chose back in January.  The word that would kind of frame my life for the last year and bring me purpose:  Simplify.

Although I may not have posted on this in a while, my quest for simplicity is still going strong.  Throughout the year I have genuinely engaged myself in the pursuit of simplicity.  I have gutted closets, garages, kitchen supplies, games, electronics.  eBay has become my good friend.  I have donated bags and bags of clothing and other items that were no longer needed to help the poor.  I've simplified my spending and my activities, as I've learned to quiet my heart and listen in the hush.

This word of the year of mine echoes through  my mind, my heart, my soul...Simplify...simplify....simplify.  As the year is soon drawing to a close, I don't think my pursuit of simplicity will end on December 31st.  It will be ongoing process for me, as I am in nowise perfect.

Over my months of practicing SIMPLICITY, I have found several resources that have offered help and insight into how to create that simple life and simple home.

I Heart Organizing
Be More With Less - Life on Purpose
Becoming Minimalist
Loving Simple Living

Today I found myself purging my facebook account, simplifying and cutting down on people and pages that bring negativity into my life.   As I write this post, I hear the word of 2013 calling to me..........

Personality Flaw or Personally Flawed

I have this innate desire to be liked by everyone.  I was born with it so it must be a God given trait, right?  If people don't like me then I think I am not good enough or doing enough.  I try to be nice to everyone and try to give everyone I see a smile.  Even in the grocery store!  SHOCKER!!!

Despite this, there are several people in my life that just don't like me.  Let's just say, they aren't blood relatives and leave it at that.  One says I have been trying to break up their family since my introduction into it.  Hmmm interesting....Let's see...Husband has wife, children, needs money, takes best paying job...Sorry, it isn't in your community.  My fault?  Possibly, if he hadn't have married me then he wouldn't have needed THIS job.  Speaking of hadn't have married me, another said she wished he had never married me on one of  her last visits.  Psshhhh...How's a woman supposed to take that??  I'm friended and unfriended on facebook.  It has gotten to the point where I have just blocked these people to avoid this AND their antagonistic comments all together.

KT says I should just ignore it and get over it.  And, he's right.  I wish I could be more like him:  less emotional.  But God made me this way for a reason, I'm not sure whether to embrace these emotions or let it go like KT suggests.  I'm working on forgiveness, don't get me wrong.  But there is still that innate desire to be liked and loved.  Is that too much to ask?  Most days I don't even give this a thought, but then those Satan thoughts creep in that say, "You aren't good enough, no one likes you..."  And then I remember.  I become obsessive over how I can make myself more likable.

If it sounds like I am on a pity pot,  maybe I am,
but remember, ♫♫It's my blog and I'll cry if I want to..♫♫

I'm not sure if this desire to be liked is a Personality flaw or
if I am personally flawed and that's why they don't like me.
 I'll probably never know...

What do you struggle with?

Goodbye Facebook

Today, I Unfriended Facebook as promised. I have been deactivated. That almost sounds robotic, doesn't it? Deactivated? It is all part of my word of the year: Simplify. While fun, Facebook was a time suck. Sitting at the computer....playing with the app on my phone.....I have just regained precious moments of my life: Simplify. There were certain people of my acquaintance on Facebook, albeit familial, who were just not uplifting and positive in my life...They liked to bring me down. Oh the drama:  Simplify. By Simplifying my life, I will make room for more things that truly matter.  Like Jesus Christ, my children, my husband, and health.

What have you done to Simplify your life today?

I was dumped!

How bad is it when a member of your family drops you as a friend on Facebook? Should I be concerned or offended? How do I deal with that? What gives....
