Sunday Wisdom

"Because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we need not fear,
for we will live forever, never to taste of death again.
Because of His infinite Atonement, we can be cleansed of sin
and stand pure and holy before the judgment bar.
The Savior is the author of our Salvation."

Marine Wife #3

 Source

KT was one of the first to return home.  When he had reenlisted it was because he opted for a specific training.  It was in the contract....When things were wrapping up quickly over there, the Marine Corps sent him home in March 1991 with some of the first soldiers coming home.  He had a contract...I was allowed to meet him then even though it was again, the middle of the night.  Like 2 am to be exact.  Do you think I slept, nope...I had a friend come with me to take pictures of our reunion.  Guess what...Her camera didn't work and the pictures didn't come out.  I'll have to settle for one like the above.

Reunion

My heart
a paradox
of emotions:
Fear, excitement.
My mind
a labyrinth
of confusion.
Our moment
is not so far.
Though many months
our separation,
only moments
to our reunion...

You, there,
all else a blur.
Focused only on you,
and I am in your arms.
Those encircling, protective arms.
The great chasm
in my heart
already it has healed.

Marine Wife #2

Source

I wasn't allowed to see KT off...not the Marine Corps' rules, but his.  They were leaving in the middle of the night, and he didn't want me losing it in Honolulu with no one to take me home.  He thought a lot of himself, didn't he?  So he had a friend pick him up, and I was left standing in the kitchen listening to them drive away.

Parting

In the arms of my lover,
I do relish the moment.
Spinning, spinning
around me the room doth spin.
The clock ticks; you must go.
My tortured heart
laments.
I listen
as you drive away...
and the engine moans.

Marine Wife #1

KT re-enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 1990.  It was a really cool experience.  Since we were stationed in Hawaii at the time, he got to reenlist on the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor.  We both got to fly a flag over the memorial and still have it today.  Later that night when he was at work, he called to tell me that he received his orders to go to the Middle East...

Patriotic Duty

As if planted
in a block of ice
dumbfounded, I stood there.
You, whisked away
into a whirlwind of the
past months events.
Your foreboding destination
looms ahead.
A war without end?
Unsure of the future,
incessantly shaking,
I put the phone back
on the hook.

Persian Gulf

Twenty years ago, KT was in the first gulf war. Don't let him fool you, though, he was on the island of Bahrain which is considered by the Arabs to be a resort. He might have had to dodge a few scud missiles, but he learned to play snooker... I was left home to work, hold down the apartment and be my friend's designated driver. What is it with military wives? So many just want to play when the hubby is gone. Not me, I was the dd and faithful to the core. I was not without some offers, though, I'm just sayin'...

I used to write poetry. I haven't in a long time, and I wasn't very good. My poetry was tied to emotions and experiences. It's how I used to express myself. Now I just yell...I have several poems that I wrote that seem to characterize what I went through when he was gone. In honor of twenty years ago, I will be sharing them in a three part series called "Marine Wife". Aren't you excited?

New Years Organization

Something about the New Year makes me want to clean and organize. I've done it before...I'll do it again. I was inspired by my dear friend Alicia to get up off of my booty and get to it. So, I have begun. I'm loving my bathroom right now. Do I have to use it? I might mess it up.

Then we loaded up the truck to make a huge donation to Deseret Industries. I don't do garage sales. They are just too much trouble. I like to bless the poor and get a tax deduction. See, I'm not that selfless, really.

Army Man

This is AJ. He is an Army Man. He has been living with us for almost a month while on leave from Italy and Afghanistan. He is a friend of TJ's. The week of Christmas TJ asked if AJ could come live with us for a few days. Three weeks later he is still living with us. We have officially, unofficially adopted him; he just fits in. Can you really legally adopt a twenty year old?

Here is some food for thought. AJ grew up in the foster care system and was never adopted. What happens to those kids who grew up in foster care and want to come home for Christmas? Seriously, have you ever thought of that? I hadn't until this guy came and blessed our home. I am referring him to as one of our boys and have hung his picture on our wall with the other children. I have this feeling that he just wants to belong somewhere. We want him to know he belongs here; with us he has a home...

On Wednesday he will be flying back to Italy and then possibly back to Afghanistan. We'll miss you! Keep safe and we'll be praying for your safety.

Fashion Favs

We all have trends and styles that we are most comfortable in...for me it is pants with "floppy pockets".  I don't know the official name for these kinds of pockets but that is what I lovingly refer to them as...I gravitate towards this style in my shorts, capris, jeans and dressier pants.

I also rarely leave the house without my silver hoop earrings.

In the winter/fall months, boots of any kind.

But, if I could lounge around all day at home it would be in these Yoga pants.

What are your fashion favorites?

Can't leave the house without it...

When I was a girl, my mom taught me that less is more in the make-up department.  I just think she didn't want me ho-ing it up in high school, but she was right.  I truly believe the less is more analogy.  I like to see God given beauty shining through.  Not that I have it, but I'm just sayin' I'm all for the more "all natural" look.  Having said that, there are a few beauty products that I can't live without.

1.  Nivea lotion.  I have really dry skin and this smells nice, too.

2.  Lip gloss.  I hate lipstick, but I'll carry a tinted lip gloss in my bag or pocket.

3.  Black Mascara - No particular brand (I like Mary Kay) but it has to be waterproof.  A girl never knows when she is going to cry...

What are your can't leave the house without beauty products?

Sunday Wisdom

"Set your goals—without goals you can't measure your progress.
But don't become frustrated if the victories don't come quickly or easily.
Remind yourself that striving can be more important than arriving.
If you are striving for excellence—
if you are trying your best day by day
with the wisest use of your time and energy to reach realistic goals—
you are a success,
and you can feel proud of your accomplishments."
