Army Man
This is AJ. He is an Army Man. He has been living with us for almost a month while on leave from Italy and Afghanistan. He is a friend of TJ's. The week of Christmas TJ asked if AJ could come live with us for a few days. Three weeks later he is still living with us. We have officially, unofficially adopted him; he just fits in. Can you really legally adopt a twenty year old?
Here is some food for thought. AJ grew up in the foster care system and was never adopted. What happens to those kids who grew up in foster care and want to come home for Christmas? Seriously, have you ever thought of that? I hadn't until this guy came and blessed our home. I am referring him to as one of our boys and have hung his picture on our wall with the other children. I have this feeling that he just wants to belong somewhere. We want him to know he belongs here; with us he has a home...
On Wednesday he will be flying back to Italy and then possibly back to Afghanistan. We'll miss you! Keep safe and we'll be praying for your safety.

What a thought provoking post. It hadn't crossed my mind, but it's a good point. Sometimes God gives us those people who aren't family by blood but become family by love.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I love the new blog background!
That is really cool! It is heart-warming and I think possible to "adopt" adult children. Everyone in this world needs some place to belong!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about that either. I love this post.
ReplyDeleteAh. I have a tender place in my heart for the men and women in the military. Good on you for being his 'host' family.

Love your heart of gold.
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting concept though, that he was never adopted. Is it too late now? Looks like you have alot of love to give.
