I read this article recently called The Death of Pretty it is an amazing article, very insightful and I totally concur. It is about girls not aspiring to be pretty and innocent anymore, but worldly and hot. And as the author states, It is time to bring back pretty. It reminds me of a post I did over a year ago called "Our Image of Self Worth"

I am disgruntled with the fact that women don't take care of themselves or present themselves like they used to in the 40's and 50's. I also have to say that men don't take care of themselves either (Gene Kelly anyone?!). And yes, women are pressured to look "hot" or "sexy" as opposed to "beautiful" or "graceful." Or some of us just don't try because there's no point even trying right? To get back to "pretty" we have to value who we are and see ourselves as reflections of the inside and not worry about what we "should" be looking like (or behaving like).

ReplyDeleteI've often wondered what happened to girls being sweet and pretty. The local school bus stop is at the end of our street so during warm weather I have the pleasure of watching high school students walk home. My heart breaks for the girls. They are all dressed so inappropriately and acting inappropriately to go along with the clothing. I always wonder where the parents were when the girls were clothes shopping.
