A Christmas Miracle

I have this story to tell, but it's not really mine to tell.  But, I will tell you anyway...(names have been withheld to protect the identity of the innocent).  Now this story has been passed down from brother in law, to husband to myself which, obviously, is not first hand knowledge.

But once upon a time, in the area called the Midwest  a family dear to us was robbed.  When I say robbed, their home was robbed, trashed and ransacked.  This sweet family, during the Christmas season, had their home and their lives violated in a most disconcerting way.  Gratefully, from what I understand, no one was home at the time or this may be a VERY different Christmas story.  But they still had to deal with the insecure feeling of having had someone break into their home and pick up the pieces and the mess left behind.

Shortly after the robbery, and a report to the police, said robber was in a car accident with a car full of the goods.  The robber was identified through the stolen items in the car.  This sweet family has had nearly everything returned.  How often does that happen?  I mean besides when Miguel had his car broken into and HE got his stuff back.  But, really?  Not very often.  I know Heavenly Father was looking out for them.  Some might say it is Karma or just bum luck for that robber.  But, I know differently.  That was a true blessing...A Christmas Miracle...

And, ye who shall be called nameless, if you are reading...feel free to add more details.  This is all we've heard from Uncle J.

  2. Hey! I know this family! :) I've finally been able to catch up on my visits to my usual blogs. You are right - we are very blessed to have gotten most of our stuff back. A couple weeks ago, I left the house around 11:30 and got back around 2:30. I had been Christmas shopping. When I opened the door into my house from the garage, I found that the back door to our deck was wide open - with wood framing laying on the floor. At first I questioned myself, wondering if I had left the door unlocked that morning to check the weather. There was actually nothing amiss until I got into my bedroom, which had been ransacked. That was the worst feeling in the world - knowing someone had been rifling thru all our stuff. We had a laptop, camera, $300 cash (set aside for the preschooler's tuition), jewelry and some other minor things stolen. I later discovered that all of our social security cards were also taken. That put me in a panic and Eddie immediately put fraud alerts on our accounts. The thief also took the 9 year old's wallet with $9 in it! As my neighbor went for a walk, he actually walked past the guy's car which was parked in front of our house. The neighbor behind said they heard what sounded like gunshots (the door being busted open), and thought about calling the police, but didn't. The detectives had a good idea who it was. Around 5:30 that evening, the detective called to tell me they caught the guy who had been in a car accident. Here are some interesting facts about him: he just got out of jail in the fall for past burglary offenses, he lives within one mi. of our house with his mother, he has continued burglarizing homes since he got out, he is a heroin addict. The burglary happened on a Tues., and I went to pick up my stuff that FRi. where I found out that the guy had been let go on a "technicality" the same evening he was caught at 2 a.m. that morning. He was caught in another jurisdiction, so I'm not sure what happened, but the detective was very upset about it. This news made me very uneasy and I was very upset about him being on the run again. I still haven't gotten all my jewelry back and I called the detective this past week to check in. He then told me the good news - that they had traced the guy's cell phone and caught him over the weekend. Thank God!! He has assured me that he won't be going anywhere, but I don't have much faith in the system right now. I'm hoping to pick up the rest of my jewelry this coming week. It still feels surreal that something like this happened to us. Luckily, the boys haven't been phased by it. They are still so sweet and innocent. I'm not sure if I'll ever feel truly safe in my own home again, but I do feel very blessed to have almost everything recovered and glad that I wasn't home when it happened. I'm also glad the thief was caught, and I hope he gets put away for a long time and gets the help he needs. It really was a Christmas miracle!
