Look what I did while my husband was gone. It's something we had talked about, but was a pretty drastic change....This was a very difficult decision for me. I am a closet environmentalist...But, I am a practical one.
Shhh, don't tell my husband, he likes to argue politics, and I avoid confrontation. This tree was my favorite, but was proving dangerous to our home. The roots were branching towards the house, foundation and sidewalks. The weak willow wood was a hazard in a windstorm. I always worried about a branch crashing down on the house. We didn't plant this tree, the previous owner did. It is amazing how fast it grew. Today is a day of mourning for my favorite shade tree in the summer...Did I mention I was sick to my stomach the whole time it was being cut down. Won't he be surprised when he gets home this afternoon? Honey we've got some work to do...Oh wait, work is a 4 letter word...literally.
Now you see it....
Amazing how much more blue the sky looks since you cut the tree down. ha ha...kidding! :)
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I have been having this same debate for 3 years now. We have a 100 foot pine tree that drops needles like crazy. I HATE it! Finally she's come to my way of thinking...maybe since we found out it will only be $300 to cut it down? :)
Wow, that's incredible! Good for you. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have a linky party going on where you can enter a post about anything you want to share with others. I would love it if you entered this one!
Its at http://bloggerchixdesigns.blogspot.com/2010/04/talk-about-it-tuesday.html
Oh, that makes me so sad for you! What a gorgeous tree! Roots ruin everthing.
ReplyDeleteI think your house looks so great without the big tree in front of it. Especially since now I can see your house! I think it's so funny you did all of this while your husband was gone. =)
ReplyDeleteThe money picture is funny (and way too true)! I agree that the tree was too big for the front yard. I think any type of willow grows really quickly. What are you going to plant in its place? I bet it feels good to finally have that taken care of! (And yes, I feel bad about pulling up trees and bushes too.)
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful tree, but roots in the foundations and sewage lines and branches crashing down on the roof are not beautiful.....
ReplyDeleteOh that is sad. We lost two of my favorite palm trees last year and it still makes me sad to see the stumps.
ReplyDeleteP.S.
I love your sunny yellow house.
I am all for cutting down trees. I think Virginia should do a lot more of it! :) Haha!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a big difference that made! So sad about the tree, but it's better than the alternative.
ReplyDeletei can't wait to see you what you do to the new claimed space! I'm excited! I think it makes the focus on your beautiful house now!
ReplyDeleteGlad that your house is safe now, but poor tree.
ReplyDeleteI freakin' love your yellow house!
ReplyDeleteI just back from a week in blackfoot Idaho. Man is it windy there. I can see how a big tree like that could be dangerous.
